Chelan Middle School was fortunate to host State Representative Brian Burnett on September 28 for the AWSP Principal for the Day event. Rep. Burnett attended the CMS staff meeting, then visited classrooms, and met with Principal Terry Sanders to better understand what is working well at Chelan Middle School (academic intervention systems, student recognition, multi-tiered systems of support for academic, behavior, and attendance concerns, school safety, etc.) and also discuss challenges that K-12 schools are facing, including rising Materials Supplies and Operating Costs (MSOC) and fiscal impacts of declining enrollment. Thank you to AWSP and Representative Burnett for making this happen.
AWSP’s Principal for a Day program pairs a legislator with a principal in their district. The goal is for the legislator to shadow a principal for a full day so they can better understand the complex role of being an instructional leader while managing and supporting students, staff, and community.
