Principals Month: What Are You Planting this Year to Harvest in the Future?

October 27, 2026

October is National Principals Month! We’re celebrating with a new prompt each week and an opportunity to win an Amazon gift card. Check out our members’ winning responses for Week 3:

Week 3 winners: What’s one thing you’re planting this year that you hope to harvest in the future?

“I’m planting seeds of confidence by showing students and staff I believe in them, even on their tough days. I hope they carry that belief with them and someday pass it on to someone else.” —Suhaill C. Nuñez, Assistant Principal, Franklin Middle, Yakima PS

“At OHS, we’re planting seeds of belonging. We’re taking a closer look at belonging data for students with IEPs in our co-taught classes, and we’re seeing an encouraging upward trend. I’m hopeful that by learning from what’s working in math and ELA, we can expand inclusive co-taught opportunities into more subject areas so even more students feel connected, supported, and know that they truly belong.” —Mallory Wilson, Assistant Principal, Olympia High, Olympia SD

“A thing I am planting now so I can harvest in the future is building relationships with my staff. This is my first year with this staff and over the years of school leadership, I have learned a lot of what not to do and what to do. A “What to do” is relationships. Trusting relationships, specifically, have so many long lasting rewards which will be necessary as I support my principal through improving our school and strengthening our culture.” —Jeremy Baird, Assistant Principal, Selah Middle, Selah SD

“I am trying to harvest a positive uplifting mindset amongst all staff that will filter down to the students and then the families of our community. We often focus on the data that isn’t up to par, or the behaviors that are disrupting our routines, and the students that keep us up at night but WE as a school system work hard, it is a tough job and a lot of time goes into what we do. I want us to celebrate the things that are going right, celebrate each other. Manifest filling other staff member’s buckets in hopes to fill our own buckets in the process. Try to bring back the enjoyment and the positives that we all do, day in and day out within the school walls.” —Jennifer Godinho-Hefley, Principal, Castle Rock Intermediate, Castle Rock SD

Congrats to our Week 3 winners! If you didn’t win last week, there is one last chance to win. Watch for our prompt on social media and via email on Wednesday.
