Your National Affiliate Membership with the PK12+ National Principals Association (NPA)

Simple, clear information about your national affiliation

AWSP is transitioning from two national affiliate partners to a single unified PK–12+ national association.

For many years, AWSP members have been affiliated with either:

  • The National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP), or
  • The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP)

Beginning July 1, 2026, NASSP will transition into the National Principals Association, a unified PK–12+ national partner, designed to represent school leaders across the full continuum—elementary, middle, and high school. This unified structure ensures that elementary, middle, and high school leaders are represented within a single national organization.

This shift reflects how AWSP already operates in Washington and creates stronger alignment at the national level. AWSP membership will include membership to the National Principals Association.

What You Need to Know

Nothing is changing about your AWSP membership.

  • Your benefits remain the same
  • Your legal protection and insurance coverage continue uninterrupted
  • No action is required for members

AWSP continues to be your primary source of support, advocacy, and professional learning.

Received a message or invoice from a national organization?

No action is needed. Your AWSP membership and coverage remain unchanged.

What You Gain

Through this alignment, members benefit from a more unified national approach, including:

  • One national advocacy voice for PK–12 school leaders
  • Aligned national awards and recognition programs
  • A single national conference with learning for all grade levels
  • Representation for elementary, middle, and high school leaders
  • Stronger coordination across states

This reflects the same “Better Together” approach we use here in Washington.

Insurance & Legal Coverage

This is the most important point:

Your professional liability coverage and legal protection remain fully intact.

  • No lapse in coverage
  • No reduction in benefits
  • No change in how you access support

Do I Need to Do Anything?

No.

Your membership continues as it always has, except now all of our memberships include a national organization aligned with ours.
