2026 Assistant Principal Summit

A horizontal banner for the "Assistant Principal Summit" on a light blue background. On the left is a circular logo featuring blue, snow-capped mountains and a winding path against an orange, sunburst sky. To the right of the logo, the text reads "ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL" in orange uppercase letters, "SUMMIT" in a large bold navy font, and the tagline "A Fast Climb to Stronger Leadership" in italicized black text. In the bottom right corner is the logo for "AWSP" (Association of Washington School Principals), featuring a multicolored torch.

AP Summit: A Fast Climb to Stronger Leadership

Assistant principals carry some of the most complex and consequential responsibilities in a school. From student discipline and family communication to legal compliance, school culture, staff relationships, and your own evaluation, the role requires clarity, confidence, and practical tools.

Join AWSP for the 2026 Assistant Principal Institute, a one-day, in-person learning experience designed specifically for assistant principals, deans of students, principal assistants, and vice principals who want to sharpen their leadership, strengthen their systems, and build a network of colleagues across Washington.

Led by AWSP Associate Director Kamrica Ary-Turner, this institute brings together legal guidance, leadership strategy, peer-tested practices, and real-world insight from award-winning assistant principals.

What You’ll Learn

During the AP Summit, participants will explore practical strategies and timely guidance on:

  • Understanding your legal rights and responsibilities as a school leader
  • Maintaining relationships while managing discipline and restorative practices
  • Crushing your own evaluation this year with support and guidance designed for assistant principals
  • Assessing your school’s climate and culture
  • Using AWSP’s School Leader Planning Guide for self-management, leadership efficiency, and sustainable systems

Why Attend?

This is not a sit-and-get workshop. The AP Summit is built around the realities of the assistant principal role: the hard conversations, the daily decisions, the shifting priorities, and the need to lead with both confidence and care.

You’ll leave with practical tools, legal insight, leadership strategies, and examples from APs who are doing the work every day in Washington schools.

Whether you are new to the role or looking to reset your systems for the year ahead, this summit will help you lead with greater clarity, purpose, and confidence.
