One school. One community. One incredible opportunity. And an entire state of school leaders ready to rally behind them.
At the Association of Washington School Principals (AWSP), we believe in the power of community, the importance of creating hope, and the incredible things that happen when people come together in support of students and schools. Right now, we have an opportunity to put those beliefs into action.
Lakeside High School in Nine Mile Falls, Washington, is one of just FOUR schools remaining nationwide in the T-Mobile 5G Challenge, competing for the opportunity to win a brand-new football field. Even more remarkable? Lakeside is the ONLY school west of the Mississippi River still in the competition!
And they need our help.
From Devastation to Hope
The Nine Mile Falls community knows what it means to face adversity. The devastating Spokane-area wildfires left a lasting impact on families, students, staff, and the broader community. The effects of those fires extend far beyond the physical damage, touching the lives of people who call this beautiful corner of Washington home.
But if there’s one thing we know about strong communities, it’s that they don’t let adversity define their future.
Instead, they rally. They rebuild. They find ways to create hope.
That’s exactly what Lakeside High School and the Nine Mile Falls community are doing.
Winning a new football field would mean so much more than a new place to play on Friday nights. It would represent an investment in students, a gathering place for families, a source of pride for the community, and a powerful reminder that something extraordinary can emerge from challenging circumstances.
Let’s Show Up!
As school leaders, we spend our careers advocating for students, supporting staff, and building communities where everyone feels connected and valued.
Sometimes, that work extends beyond the walls of our own schools.
This is one of those moments.
AWSP is throwing its full support behind Lakeside High School, and we’re asking our members, partners, educators, families, and communities across Washington to join us.
Imagine what could happen if principals and assistant principals across our state rallied their staff, families, friends, and communities to support Lakeside.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re in Spokane, Seattle, Vancouver, Yakima, Wenatchee, or anywhere in between. We can all play a part in helping this community achieve something special.
