From our partners at PESB.
The Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB) is looking forward to hosting a series of listening sessions February-March 2025 to hear from P-12 educators. These virtual Zoom sessions will delve into four topic areas that new educators need to be prepared for in their educator preparation programs (EPPs), so they are ready for the P-12 school environment. We will seek your feedback on the topic areas below.
If you are interested in attending one, some, or all of the meetings listed below, please register at your earliest convenience. You may choose to attend one or more sessions.
Additional Context
These meetings will build upon initial feedback provided by educators at a listening session held on September 17, 2024 [slide deck] (please see P.S. below for a brief summary). At this session, P-12 educators identified focus areas that preparation programs should be elevating to ensure that beginning educators complete their programs with the knowledge and skills necessary to serve students. Participation in this prior meeting is not required for attendance at any of the above listening sessions.
If you have not been able to attend the first meeting, we still want to see you in the upcoming meetings.
We look forward to the robust conversations!

P.S. Below is a ‘quick blurb’ of our Sept. 17 discussion:
Our Sept. 17 meeting explored how legislative and rule changes have impacted educational standards and, thus, teacher preparation. We examined the importance of these shifts for new educators, highlighting resource needs and mentoring systems. Key skills for beginning educators include classroom management, cultural responsiveness, and embedding SEL and CCDEI standards into teaching. Teachers shared "aha" moments, like the importance of building trust with students, adapting lessons, and practicing self-care. Personal growth and valuing diverse classroom experiences were central themes. Please share this with colleagues interested in shaping these conversations further—we’d love more voices involved! 😊
