Did you know that TPEP funds—state-allocated dollars specifically set aside for professional development—must be used by the end of the year, or they go back to the state? If your district has unused TPEP funding, now is the perfect time to allocate it toward registration and travel for the annual Summer Conference.

This conference is an opportunity to engage with top educational leaders, gain actionable strategies, and renew your passion for leadership—all while making the most of funds already designated for professional learning.

Frequently Asked Questions

My District Has a Travel Freeze. Can I Still Use These Funds?

TPEP funds are allocated from the state Legislature and distributed through OSPI via the EGMS grant system. They have a limited scope for what they can be used for. One of those allowable expenses includes travel and registration for Summer Conference (see more details below). They cannot be used for salaries, general district funding, etc. Unspent funds are returned to the state every year.

How Do I Know if My District Has TPEP Funds?

You can find the 2024–25 allocations here. Check with your district’s grants or business office to see if there are unallocated funds or ask for budget revisions.

What Are the Grant’s Allowable Expenditures?

The grants are prioritized by three tiers.

Tier 1: Highest Priority
Required training for new administrators and teachers in the evaluation system and the district’s chosen instructional framework.
Required training for district or school administrators in the leadership framework.

Tier 2: Next Highest Priority
Activities in support of implementing the revised Student Growth Goal rubrics.
For districts using the Danielson Framework for Teaching, activities in support of implementing the updated framework.
Expenses for administrators to attend a Learning Focused Supervision professional development, offered by ESDs or to fund facilitators from the approved Learning Focused Supervision Trainer list to conduct the learning in-district.

Tier 3: After Tier 2 and 3 Needs Have Been Met (Summer Conference registration falls into this tier)
Opportunities to deepen application of the instructional framework in practice.
Opportunities to use the instructional framework to support practices that ensure all students have access to the instruction and instructional support they need to succeed in our schools.

For a more detailed list of allowable expenses aligned to each tier, visit OSPI’s TPEP Professional Learning and Training Funding page.

Don’t Let Your TPEP Funds Go Unused

If you're considering attending Summer Conference, talk to your district as soon as possible to ensure funds are allocated before they expire. This is a great opportunity for districts to invest in their leadership teams without impacting their general budget.
