Federal Advocacy Update and Action Alert from NAESP/NASSP

Roz Thompson, Governmental Relations & Advocacy Director, AWSP
May 21, 2025

This week, both the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) are reaching out to their members (which includes all of you) to ask for help in contacting members of Congress regarding proposals that are being considered in the budget reconciliation legislation.

NAESP asks school leaders to contact their members of Congress about the impact on K-12 schools of the proposed $700 billion cuts to Medicaid in Congress’s Budget Reconciliation process. These cuts would significantly reduce funding for school-based health services and IDEA-related support for students with disabilities.

Please take a moment to complete this NAESP Action Alert and encourage your colleagues to do the same.

NASSP writes that your voice as a school leader makes a difference, and they encourage you to reach out to your Representative, your Senators, and other officials to ask for their support for public schools and to reject some of the dangerous proposals that are being considered, especially the national private school voucher program (Educational Choice for Children Act) in the budget reconciliation legislation. Please use this NASSP action alert to send a message to your members of Congress.
