Washington Breathes has two active surveys for middle and high school staff to inform our work across the state. We know school staff are always busy, so these are ongoing surveys without a specific deadline for responses.
We will share the aggregated data from these surveys to inform school leaders, community leaders and policymakers about the challenges our schools face with youth commercial tobacco use . We will avoid describing the data in any way that identifies an individual school.
Any questions can be directed to us at organizer@washingtonbreathes.org.
School Cessation Resources Survey
We are gathering information about resources available in middle and high schools to assist students who are using commercial tobacco products and who are dependent on nicotine. We hope to better understand cessation resources or programs that schools are using, as well as identify needs and barriers. Many schools are struggling with the amount of youth vaping and nicotine use and we want to understand what supports are needed.
We estimate this cessation resources survey will take about 10-15 minutes for a principal or school health staff to complete
Confiscated Tobacco Products in Schools
We're gathering information about vape devices, oral nicotine pouches, cigars, and other commercial tobacco products collected from youth in school settings. Washington Breathes and the Rutgers Center for Rapid Surveillance of Tobacco are working together to gather information about the brand types and quantities of commercial tobacco products that are confiscated in middle and high schools. This survey will inform our work to prevent youth commercial tobacco use and reduce the burden of tobacco wastes on schools.
School staff can complete the survey here.
