Mentorship for New School Leaders

Are You a New Principal or AP Looking for a Mentor? 

AWSP's mentoring program is designed to pair new or newly assigned principals or APs with a qualified mentor, specially trained by AWSP to support new leaders in their initial years of school leadership.

Year 1: Mentees will receive 40 hours of 1:1 mentoring.

Year 2: Mentees will receive 30 hours of 1:1 mentoring.

Year 3: "The COVID clause" | If your first year as a principal began in 2020, you qualify for 20 hours of mentoring in the upcoming school year.



Requirements and Expectations for New School Leaders (Mentee)

  • New or newly assigned (different level than your previous leadership experiences).
  • Within the first two years in your current role.
  • Your superintendent or direct supervisor supports mentoring.
  • You (the mentee) will commit to attending Virtual Implementation Sessions with your mentor.

Mentees Attend Virtual Sessions with Mentors

  • October 12: Consistent Adult Care
  • November 30: Conversation Models
  • February 8: SEL for School Leader Fluency
  • Mid-Winter Check-in: Review & Re-Commit
  • March 15: Making Leadership Connections
  • April 26: Data & Cultural Responsiveness
